We welcome you to our new health blog, where we will provide you with meaningful health content, show you how our service has helped people save money on their medications, and share health secrets taught from the school of life. I've found that it's best to learn by observation rather than learning through experience. What I mean by this is that we can shorten the learning curve by living vicariously through someone else's experience rather than insisting on experiencing it ourselves. Following is a case on point.
I was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes at age 35, which was 9 years ago. Since then I have studied and fought my way to health. I recently went to the Optometrist for my annual eye exam. He related the staggering statistics of those who have had diabetes for 10 years -approximately 90% of them will have some degree of diabetic retinopahty (blood in the eye).
Retinopathy is a condition caused by prolonged periods of high blood sugar levels, which cause damage to the small blood vessels in the retina at the back of the eye. They can begin to leak blood into the retina. The retina is the film at the back of the eye, which receives light images and sends them to your brain. A healthy retina is essential for good vision.
Retinopathy can occur with all types of diabetes. If left untreated, diabetic retinopathy can lead to blindness, which is the last thing someone with diabetes needs! (Source: http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/facts/diabeticretinopathy.htm)
After the doctor concluded his treatise of psychological terrorism, he told me the good news, "You have NO bleeding in your eyes! You're 9 years into diabetes and you have beaten all the odds. Whatever you're doing, keep doing it... and tell others to do it too."
So here we are. I will be sharing my own secrets of how to take a tiger (such as diabetes) by the tail and maintain good health despite the disadvantages. We can defy the odds together. Please join me.
Check back regularly and let's have some fun!
